18th March is Global Recycling Day, here at LEW, we want to ensure we preserve our planet for future generations and take our responsibilities very seriously.

We have taken steps to ensure we follow best practices in terms of what we recycle. We are one of the few electrical wholesalers to introduce recyclable paper bags in our branches for example, helping eliminate the need to produce 70,000 plastic bags this year alone. We have also removed single use plastic cups and stirrers from our tea & coffee vending machines, again swapping these the recyclable paper cups.

A selection of our branches are also Recolight Commercial Collection Points. Customers are able to bring in their disused lamps into our branch to be recycled, ensuring responsible disposal of lamp waste. We would request if anyone would like to do this, please ring ahead to let your local branch know that you are bringing them in to make sure to check they are able to accommodate this. You can find out more information from Recolight here.

WHAT ELSE HAVE LEW DONE TO BE MORE SUSTAINABLE?

We are constantly making sure our environmental efforts are the best they can be. Half of our branches are now using commercial energy suppliers who solely provide renewable energy. Even more impressive is our Grimsby unit, which houses our Grimsby branch and regional office, and is self-sufficient via Solar and Battery Storage energy technology. Similarly our Doncaster branch also reduces its carbon footprint by sourcing energy from Solar.

We realise it’s important to do ‘our bit’. We know we have a responsibility to be sustainable and protect the environment for the next generation. As a business, we realise that we need to take conscious actions to ensure we contribute to the global effort to protect the world for future generations.

If you’ve any ideas how you feel we can be more sustainable, please email marketing@lewelectrical.co.uk or speak to someone in one of our branches.
