Several branch members have stepped up across Yorkshire and the North West, swapping the trade counter for paintbrushes to support critical local services, reinforcing LEW’s commitment to community-focused corporate social responsibility.

In a powerful demonstration of regional support and dedication to local communities, our team members mobilised for a significant volunteer effort, focusing their energy on the vital work being carried out at the BIADS Dementia Centre in Barnsley.

On the 4th and 5th of November, a unified team of volunteers spanning five LEW branches—Leeds, Sheffield, Huddersfield, Wakefield, and Barnsley—alongside specialised staff from their Lighting Solutions division, spent their time entirely dedicated to refurbishing the much-used centre.

The objective was to refresh the environment used daily by individuals living with dementia, their carers, and their families. The volunteers spent the two days painting and decorating, ensuring the crucial support space remains welcoming, clean, and therapeutic.

A Unified Regional Effort

The initiative, a cornerstone of LEW’s robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, highlights the company’s philosophy that true success involves supporting the health and wellbeing of the areas it serves.

Group Manager Ben Jones commented on the importance of the project, noting that the work directly impacts one of the most vulnerable groups within the Barnsley community. “Supporting the vital projects in the local communities where our branches serve is truly at the heart of our CSR programme,” he stated. “It was an absolute honour to help refresh such an important space for BIADS. These centres rely heavily on external support, and the commitment shown by our staff, swapping the trade counter for rollers and brushes for two days, was outstanding.”

The project not only benefited the physical space but also showcased the community spirit and excellent coordination across LEW’s regional footprint.

Expanding Social Value Reach

The dedication to supporting local social value days extended beyond the Yorkshire efforts in November.

In the Manchester area, LEW Bury’s Terry Birtles and John Widdowson demonstrated their commitment by participating in a separate, large-scale volunteering initiative. We joined forces with the Wolseley Group, actively supporting the Irwell Valley Homes & Wolseley Managed Services Social Values Day. This wider collaboration saw the branch contributing to local projects focused on improving living conditions and community resources throughout the region.

These combined efforts underline our overarching commitment to being an active, positive force in every community they operate in, recognising that local businesses play a crucial role in building resilient and supportive regional networks.
