Carbon Monoxide Highlighted for Gas Safety Week 2019

Market leaders in fire and Carbon Monoxide protection, Aico, marked will mark this year’s Gas Safety Week with a series of live events around the country. Their ‘Why Would You Risk It?’ tour will visit five UK towns this week (16th – 20th September) to help raise public awareness around Carbon Monoxide (CO) and the dangers presented by the noxious gas.

Gas Safety Week is an annual safety week designed to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. It is coordinated by Gas Safety Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas appliances, and is supported by industry groups, organisations and companies, like Aico. Recent research has shown that more than half the UK population do not have a CO alarm fitted in their home. Poorly fitted or serviced gas appliances are one of a number of potential causes of Carbon Monoxide poisoning in the home and can also lead to fatal fires and explosions.

Aico’s Mobile Demonstration units will visit Norwich (16th), Luton (17th), Plymouth (18th), Blackpool (19th) and Middlesbrough (20th) to further educate the general public on the dangers of Carbon Monoxide, providing free resources and interactive learning to help people stay safe and secure in their own homes. The public will have the opportunity to learn from Aico’s Regional Specification Managers who will be on hand to provide expert support and advice on selecting and installing suitable Carbon Monoxide protection for their homes or property.

Aico also provides downloable resources on their website for home owners, landlords, tennants and electrical professionals. These include safety guides for landlords to help keep tennants safe; the latest recommendations and British Standards for CO alarms; information on the symptoms of CO poisoning for home owners; and product brochures for electrical professionals installing fire and CO protection.
